Spain in the Philippines: Ciudad Fernandina de Vigan

Vigan, Ilocos Sur

Very historic. Being here makes you feel that you are living in the past. Vigan is the oldest surviving Spanish colonial city in the Philippines.

For most people, Vigan is far better than the other places to put ourselves on. Not only because its beautiful but also to have the nostalgic feeling of having the delightful ambiance of the historic Spanish times. Feel like Maria Clara, wearing a glamorous Filipiniana standing behind the window, listening to the classical music, and seeing the streets made of cobblestones and distinct architecture of houses. It will delight all of your senses as if you were living in times of Renaissance.

For people who really want to be eccentric, travelling through horse carriages in Vigan is really an enjoyable and fun way to go around the town.

Restaurants located in Vigan are perfect for romantic dinner. Ancestral houses turned into a magnificent-looking restaurant. Imagine that you are having a date with Juan Crisostomo Ibarra.

From Manila, it will take 7-8 hours riding a bus or a private vehicle. I'll recommend you taking land transportation to witness the scenic route in the Ilocos highway. But if you want a faster trip, there's always an option of riding a plane.
